Berto Luis Ruano Oretaga

Santiago de Cuba, 1954

Primitive artist

During the last 20 years Ruano has played an important part of the movement of primitive art plasticas. He uses distinctive natural elements of the life of los campasinos.  His paintings reflect the influence of  folk/religious traditions of the African/Cuban culture, including the belief in Orisha*s.   His expressions of cultural issues and concerns of a human nature are often consumed with finding a solution to these issues, namely finding a way out.

He has faith that human thinking will guide the universe.
